Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia Adds ONE (Malay) to StarHub TV in Singapore

Singapore, 20 July 2011 – Sony Pictures Television's networks, Asia, is expanding distribution of ONE in Singapore with a third feed of its first Asian entertainment channel launching on StarHub TV.

Debuting on 22 July 2011, the Malay language localised ONE (Malay) (StarHub TV Ch 124), joins Mandarin-Chinese localised standard and high definition (HD) channels, ONE (StarHub TV Ch 823) and ONE HD (StarHub TV Ch 876) respectively, on the cable TV platform.

Prior to the launch of ONE (Malay) in Singapore, the Malay language-localised ONE HD has already proven to be very successful in Malaysia where it is the No.1-rated HD channel since 1 January 2011.

With a focus on top South Korean entertainment, ONE is the exclusive destination of programs produced by Seoul-based content supplier and broadcaster SBS through an output deal. ONE offers viewers in Singapore some of the latest Korean drama series, with selected titles premiering 3 – 5 weeks after their debut broadcasts in South Korea. In addition, the hippest K-pop variety and music programmes complement the channel’s drama line-up.

"The tremendous success of ONE HD in Malaysia reflects the great potential for ONE (Malay) to be enjoyed by Malay-speaking audiences in Singapore. Working with StarHub TV, we are glad to share the joys of the latest and finest Korean content in Malay localisation. The launch of ONE (Malay) is perfectly timed to add to the fun and festivities leading up to the Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebrations,” said Ricky Ow, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networks, Asia, Sony Pictures Television.

Airing its shows with Malay language subtitling and a Malay dubbed programming block during primetime, ONE (Malay) is being rolled out as part of StarHub TV’s ‘ONE Sensation Pack’. SYNOPSIS

Set in the 1700s, the action-period drama Warrior Baek Dong Soo is inspired from the popular comic book (manhwa) of the same title, which is in turn based on the life of Baek Dong Soo, a legendary figure who created a martial arts guide in the Joseon Dynasty.

This martial arts-history fusion drama series centers on the events involving Crown Prince Sado's conspiracy that led to King Jeongjo's reign. Sworn to protect his Royal Highness, Baek Dong Soo and his group comes up against a mysterious organization of assassins who plot to kill the King.

Warrior Baek Dong Soo stars Ji Chang-wook (Smile, Donghae) as the righteous eponymous hero Baek Dong-soo, while Yoo Seung-ho (Queen Seon Duk) takes the dark and enigmatic part of Yeo Woon, in his first attempt at an antagonist's role.

In addition, Yoon So Yi (Glass Castle) who graduated in February from Dongkuk University's School of Drama is starring in the series. Shin Hyun Bin (He's On Duty), winner of the best new actress award at this year's Baeksang Arts Awards, will make her TV drama debut in this series.

The production was led by producer Lee Hyun-jik (OB-GYN, Tazza) and Kim Hong-sun, (Medical Gibang, Mystery Detective Jung Yak-yong, Yacha).
